All dogs residing in NY State must be licensed. Licenses are issued at the Town Clerk’s Office and must be renewed annually. On October 1, 1992, Dutchess County was declared a rabies county. We still have confirmed rabies cases each year. Therefore, all dog, cats and ferrets must be vaccinated against the rabies disease. The Town Clerk cannot issue a dog license without a current rabies certificate. The rabies dog tag does not work as proof and the certificate cannot expire within 30 days.
If your dog is picked up by the Animal Control Officer, your dog will be taken to the Pine Plains Highway Department for lodging.
